My teaching is friendly, supportive, practical and centred on the individual learner. I believe students learn English best when they feel comfortable enough to speak, ask questions and make mistakes without feeling embarrassed. I therefore create a relaxed and encouraging learning environment while still giving each lesson a clear purpose and structure.
I adapt my teaching methods to each student's level, interests and goals. Rather than relying only on textbooks and grammar exercises, I use conversation, real-life situations, reading, writing, vocabulary building, pronunciation practice and practical activities. For example, we might practise everyday conversations, discuss an interesting article, work through a presentation, improve a piece of writing, prepare for a job interview, or practise English that the student needs for work, university or travel.
For university students and professionals, I can provide more specialised support in academic and professional English. As an experienced university teacher and published researcher, I can help students develop academic writing, structure essays and assignments, improve vocabulary and clarity, understand academic texts, prepare presentations and communicate their ideas more confidently in English.
I have several years of university teaching experience at the University of Eastern Finland and have taught students from many different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. My international teaching experience has also involved universities and learners in Finland, Germany, France, India and Nepal. This has taught me that every learner is different and that effective teaching requires patience, flexibility and encouragement.
Most importantly, I want my students to enjoy learning English and to see their confidence grow. My lessons are interactive rather than one-sided: we talk, practise, ask questions, work through difficulties together and focus on English that is genuinely useful to the student. My goal is for every learner to leave the lesson feeling that they have achieved something and are a little more confident using English.
