Assisting students in taking the necessary steps to become efficient and self-sufficient users of English capable of carrying out a range of functions and duties in different settings, has always been my priority.
I usually introduce the new grammar item or the new skill through real life situations through pictures, text or short audio or video material which the student is invited to comment about some aspect of the given situation . Its significance, usefulness or its cultural or technological aspect of it.
If for instance the target skill is the comparison of life in two different communities the relevant vocabulary is introduced and explained in context as an addition to the possible existing vocabulary that the student possesses.
In the process I often like to express my rather different opinion and later attempt to negotiate our varying views or angles on the given topic. Ample encouragement and support on my part is provided (when/if needed) as the student often feels the need to clarify their position or point of view and present a good argument. My interest, knowledge and skills in a variety of domains like languages, music, mythology, sports , psychology and cinema will add to the learning experience of the student.
