Photographer for 20+ years, university lecturer: alternative processes incl. daguerreotype, portfolio development, award coaching.

I have worked as a photographer and artist for over 20 years, mainly with the daguerreotype and video, and I have taught at university level for about 15 years, currently at Tokyo University of the Arts and Nihon University College of Art. My work is held in collections including the Hirshhorn Museum. All sessions are online and built around your goals. In the first session we talk about your work, your experience and what you want to achieve, and I suggest a plan from there. In alternative process sessions, I explain each step with live demonstrations from my studio, help you prepare materials at home, and review your results with you. Daguerreotype beginners start with the Becquerel process, which does not use mercury. In portfolio sessions, we look at your work together and focus on selection, sequencing, presentation and your artist statement. For awards, grants and residencies, I help you find suitable opportunities and give detailed feedback on your application texts and images. I teach in English and Japanese.
