Mandarin Chinese Instructor for Adult Learners (All levels, Traditional & Simplified Chinese)

Brief Intro: My name is Jacqueline, and I am currently working at a German university as a Mandarin Instructor, teaching both beginner and intermediate students. Prior to my current role, I was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Leeds, where I conducted a Traditional Chinese Character Reading Workshop. Students reported noticeable improvement after just three weeks of training. I also have teaching experience through a U.S. government-funded program as welandmerican Institute in Taiwan (AIT). Teaching Style: My students often describe me as a relaxed and approachable teacher, while still being structured and detail-oriented when necessary. I believe that building a strong foundation in pronunciation and grammar is essential for long-term progress and confidence in speaking. I design interactive lessons that balance practical communication, cultural understanding, and structured language development. Depending on the student’s goals, lessons may include conversation practice, pronunciation correction, grammar clarification, reading practice, and cultural topics related to Taiwan and the Chinese-speaking world. What to Expect in the First Lesson: During the first lesson, I usually begin with an informal speaking assessment at an introductory level, based on OPI-style principles, to better understand the student’s current abilities, learning habits, and long-term goals. Since many adult learners have studied Mandarin on and off for years, I find it important to identify both strengths and gaps before deciding on materials or pacing. After the assessment, I will suggest suitable learning resources and discuss a realistic learning plan tailored to the student’s goals and schedule.
