My Teaching Philosophy and Approach
My teaching is centered on communication, cultural understanding, and practical application. I create a learning environment that is interactive, student-focused, and encouraging. My goal is to help German learners feel confident using English in real-world situations—whether for work, travel, or everyday conversation.
Teaching Methods
I use a mix of communicative language teaching (CLT), task-based learning, and elements of the flipped classroom model. Lessons typically begin with a warm-up or review, followed by an introduction to new language points through context (e.g., short dialogues, real-life texts, or videos). Students then apply what they've learned through structured practice (e.g., role-plays, discussions, or group activities).
I also tailor my approach to learners' needs—integrating grammar, vocabulary, listening, reading, and speaking in a balanced way, but always with a focus on communication. I encourage error-making as part of the learning process and foster a safe space where students are not afraid to speak up.
Content
The content depends on the group and level. For beginners, I use everyday topics (introductions, shopping, directions). For intermediate and advanced learners, we work with themes like workplace communication, email writing, cultural differences, and small talk. I also incorporate authentic materials (news articles, short videos, podcasts) to expose students to real English.
Classroom Dynamics
My classroom is collaborative and dynamic. I promote pair and group work to get students talking, and I frequently change partners to build confidence and a sense of community. I use humor and culturally relevant examples to keep the mood light and inclusive.
I also use formative assessment tools like quick quizzes, peer feedback, and informal speaking assessments to adjust instruction and give students feedback.
