Structured Lesson Plan – Social Emotional Learning
Topic: Growing Through Emotions
Grade: 3–5
Duration: 45–60 minutes
Learning Objective
I will help my learners identify and express their emotions, develop empathy, and practise positive strategies for managing their feelings in everyday situations.
My Learning Experience
I will begin with an Emotion Check-In, inviting every learner to share how they are feeling using a colour, weather symbol, or emoji.
I will read a meaningful story and guide learners to explore the emotions, choices, and perspectives of the characters.
I will facilitate collaborative role-play activities where learners practise empathy, kindness, and respectful problem-solving in real-life situations.
I will conclude with a reflection, encouraging each learner to identify one emotion they understand better and one act of kindness they will practise during the week.
Technology Integration
I will use a short SEL video or a digital emotion check-in tool to enrich discussion and engagement, ensuring that technology enhances learning while meaningful relationships remain at the heart of the lesson.
Assessment
I will observe learners' participation, collaboration, empathy, and reflections to understand their social and emotional growth and to guide my future teaching.
My Goal: To create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every child feels seen, valued, and empowered to grow emotionally as well as academically.
