Frank Mcguire

Hello! I'm a native American English speaker, a professional frontend developer, and a teacher at heart. For more than 12 years, I've built web applications with Angular and TypeScript, and before that I spent decades teaching digital media and web programming in higher education. I've also led a cross-functional team of 12, so I know how software teams really talk, write, and give each other feedback.

My lessons are for people who work in IT, study it, or are moving into it, and who want to feel as confident in English as they are in code. We practise the situations that matter: stand-ups, sprint planning, demos, retrospectives, code reviews and technical interviews. Instead of memorising word lists, you try things out in realistic role-plays with rotating roles (Product Owner, Scrum Master, developer) and real-looking tickets. I give gentle feedback afterwards, so you keep speaking while the conversation is flowing.

Lessons are online, in English only, and 60 minutes long, usually once a week. I use examples, sentence frames, and a shared board, so you always know what's going on, even at an intermediate level. We also work on writing: pull request descriptions, commit messages, emails, documentation, and your English CV and LinkedIn profile if you're job hunting.

Every session ends with a developer-themed Word of the Day, with examples, antonyms, and a little etymology, because knowing where a word comes from helps it stick.

You can start 1:1 or join a small, friendly group of up to five learners. New students can join in any week, since every session is complete on its own. I'd be glad to meet you in a free 30-minute intro call.
