Hi, I'm Emma — a TEFL-certified English teacher who loves helping people communicate with real confidence. I taught English for over two years at an Apple Distinguished School in South Korea, where I designed project-based lessons that had students using English to create, present, and solve real problems. I also run English with Emma, an online learning community of 700,000+ followers, and I work one-on-one with adults on business English, job interview preparation, and English certification exams.
My approach
My teaching is learner-centered, which simply means lessons are built around you: your goals, your level, your interests, and the way you learn best. Rather than lecturing, I act as your guide — giving you the structure and support to do the real work of learning by speaking, thinking, and using English yourself. A few proven methods I rely on:
Communicative & task-based learning — You learn English by actually using it. Instead of memorizing rules in isolation, you practice through real tasks and scenarios — running a meeting, acing an interview, telling a story, debating an idea — so the language sticks because it's tied to something meaningful.
Project-based learning — Drawing on my classroom experience, I use longer goals and projects to keep learning purposeful and motivating, building your skills step by step toward a real outcome.
The right level of challenge — I keep our material just beyond your current level: hard enough to grow, supported enough to succeed. As your confidence builds, I gradually remove the "training wheels."
Feedback that moves you forward — You get clear, specific, encouraging feedback every lesson, so you always know what you're doing well and exactly what to work on next.
Making it stick — We revisit key vocabulary and structures over time through spaced practice and active recall — the techniques cognitive science shows actually move language into long-term memory.
A low-pressure environment — Language grows fastest when anxiety is low, so I keep lessons warm, patient, and judgment-free. Mistakes aren't failures; they're often the fastest route to improvement.
What lessons are like
Expect plenty of speaking from the very first minute, with real conversation at the heart of every session. We'll balance the skills you need most — speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation — using authentic, up-to-date materials chosen around your goals, not a one-size-fits-all textbook. Whether you're a younger learner building a foundation or a professional polishing business English, lessons stay engaging, paced to you, and focused on steady, visible progress.
Whether you're aiming for fluent conversation, confident business English, a higher exam score, or interview success, I'd love to help you get there.
