I have extensive experience in English language teaching in different educational contexts. I worked as a volunteer teacher in Sri Lanka for one year, where I gained valuable insight into classroom management and the importance of adapting lessons to learners’ diverse backgrounds and proficiency levels. This experience helped me develop flexibility and a strong sense of responsibility in teaching.
In addition, I have worked in a technical school, where I taught English to students with a more vocational focus. In this environment, I had to tailor my teaching materials to be more practical and relevant to students’ future careers. This included emphasizing functional language, workplace communication, and applied grammar rather than purely theoretical content.
Apart from institutional teaching, I have also provided private English tuition for approximately eight years in Sri Lanka. Through tutoring, I worked closely with individual learners and small groups, which allowed me to personalize instruction according to each student’s needs. I supported learners with grammar, writing, reading comprehension, and spoken English, often focusing on exam preparation as well.
Across all these experiences, my teaching approach has been largely communicative and student-centred. I encourage active participation, interactive tasks, and consistent feedback. These varied experiences have strengthened my ability to teach effectively in both formal and informal settings while supporting learners’ confidence and progress in English.
