Sofía Alva Rija

I am an experienced EFL teacher and Fulbright FLTA Scholar with several years of experience teaching English to secondary school students, adults, and learners from different cultural backgrounds. My classes are student-centered, dynamic, and tailored to each learner’s goals, interests, and level of proficiency. I believe that language learning should feel practical, engaging, and supportive, so I focus on creating a comfortable environment where students feel confident participating and making mistakes as part of the learning process.

My lessons usually combine speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation practice in an integrated way. I use authentic materials such as articles, videos, podcasts, and real-life situations to help students develop communicative skills that they can actually use outside the classroom. Depending on the student’s needs, classes may focus on conversation practice, grammar reinforcement, exam preparation, academic English, or professional communication.

I also incorporate interactive activities, guided discussions, role-plays, games, and personalized feedback to keep lessons engaging and effective. I adapt my teaching methods to different learning styles and encourage students to actively participate throughout the class.

As a teacher, I value patience, empathy, and clear communication. My experience working in diverse educational contexts has helped me understand the importance of flexibility and cultural awareness in language teaching. My goal is not only to help students improve their English skills, but also to help them become more confident and independent language users.
