My name is Shalon Michael Fernandes, and I am 19 years old. I teach English through reading novels because literature naturally exposes students to real sentence structures, vocabulary, and expressions used in everyday communication. My teaching method is structured in several stages to help students gradually improve their understanding and confidence.
First, I begin the lesson with a short passage from a novel. Students read the passage carefully, either silently or aloud. This helps them become familiar with the flow of English sentences and pronunciation. Next, we discuss the meaning of the text together. I ask questions about the story so that students think about the content and practise expressing their ideas in English.
After that, I focus on language learning. I explain important vocabulary, phrases, and sentence structures used in the passage. This helps students understand how sentences are formed and how words work together naturally.
Finally, students practise what they have learned. They may summarise the passage, describe the characters, or discuss the events in their own words. Sometimes they also write short responses. This step strengthens their communication skills and helps them use English more confidently in both speaking and writing.
