As a private English tutor with a passion for art, history, and travel, I love weaving culture into language learning so that lessons feel engaging and inspiring. For a beginner student, I might design a short 30-minute lesson called “Travel & Art – Visiting the Louvre.”We would begin by looking at a picture of the Louvre and talking simply about what it is and where it is, using easy words like “Paris” and “museum”.
From there, I would introduce useful vocabulary for both travel and art—words like ticket, hotel, museum, painting, colorful, beautiful, big, and small. The student would practice these words in short, clear sentences such as “This is a ticket” or “The painting is beautiful.”
Next, we would practice a mini-dialogue where the student plays a traveler asking for directions: “Excuse me, where is the museum?” and answering with “It is near the river.” To make the lesson more memorable, I would share a very short story about a traveler visiting the Louvre: “Maria goes to Paris. She visits the Louvre. She sees the Mona Lisa. It is small but beautiful.” Together we'd read it aloud and answer simple questions like “Where is Maria?” or “What does she see?” Finally, I'd show a famous painting such as Starry Night and invite the student to describe it in their own words, using our new vocabulary: “It is colorful. I like it.'
To close, we'd review the words and the student would take a small homework task—writing a few sentences about a museum or travel dream. This way, the student practices functional English while also discovering culture, history, and art in a fun, approachable way. Lessons will be tailored to the proficiency and interests of the student.
