When I am confronted with an unknown text or word, I immediately look it up and break down the sentence or chapter in smaller parts so it would be digestible for me.

I will do the same with a student, they will tell me what they don't know or fully understand, we will use the text book or dictionary and find out the proper meaning of the task at hand then tackle it accordingly.
