Kisa

Hi, I'm Kisa, and I have been working in the field of education since 2013. My experience is primarily as a science teacher in secondary schools, but as a physicist, I often find myself teaching mathematics as well.

I am comfortable tutoring in physics to any level, and due to my experience teaching biology, chemistry, astronomy, and Earth sciences, can spontaneously teach a variety of other topics as well. With a bit more notice, I can prepare lessons in any area of science and many areas of mathematics.

My educational philosophy is student-centred, which means that every session begins by meeting the student where they are at, in terms of content knowledge and attitude toward the subject. We can then set realistic progression goals for the short term, as well as achievement goals for the long term.

I believe that the main barrier facing people struggling with science and physics in particular, is that we do not take enough advantage of what is already known. For example, the whole of Newton's Laws can be explained in the context of a single train ride, basic principles of circuit electricity with a garden hose, and wave properties by singing.

My classroom experience has specialised in working with neurodivergent students, and I find great satisfaction in tailoring instruction to those whose brains work a bit differently, as well as to students who find that traditional classroom learning does not come easily. Understanding science should be without barriers to entry, and my practice aims to contribute to that reality.
