The way I plan my lessons is by getting to know the person I am teaching and which topics they would like to explore. For example a university student may want to have speaking practice relating to their future job so I could tailor the lessons towards that. Some more advanced learners may find grammar more important and as a native speaker I can help them with this, whereas beginner learners will need to learn the basic vocabulary and sentence structure first.
