I have a lot of experience teaching for students to pass qualifying exams, correcting and editing grammar, diction, and other elements of writing, teaching poetry and prose, and teaching reading and writing. When students are unsure as to how they would like to learn, I always would recommend communication/conversation lessons :)
Listening and speaking are also special skills that I have, and conversations can lead us into discussions of vocabulary, pronunciation, emphasis, and other elements of speech for which I find it easy to identify rules (learning one rule allows the student to understand many new words easily). I have a lot of experience in teaching speaking and using my listening and physical interpretation skills to understand non-verbal communications, cultural differences, and many nuances of cross-cultural communication.
