Charles Wachira Gathano

I have over 20 years in teaching both in secondary schools and in universities. I have taught English and English literature and many other subjects. My methods of teaching include case studies, discussions, intensive reading, translations and general speaking exercises among students and the teacher. I also ensure we make use of acceptable students textbooks based on the English level of the learners that I am entrusted with. Assignments are given as away of practicing at individual levels where it is required.

In secondary schools, I taught English and English literature from Form 1 to 4. I also taught other subjects whose language of instructions is English. In universities, I have been involved in teaching students whose language is not English. They are learning English as they apply it to learn in their different professional degrees. This has enabled me to gain experience in choosing the most suitable and easy words that make students find learning even more interesting. Currently, I am teaching in one such university where majority do not know English but they are doing their advanced degree using English. It is not usually easy for them but I make sure sure that they find meaning in learning the language as they use it to in their degree studies.
