CELTA-qualified English tutor offering personalised online lessons for all ages and levels

My lessons are built around each student. Before we start, I find out about their first language, their professional and personal background, and their goals, and I plan around what they need and enjoy, so the content and activities are relevant to them. Each lesson opens with an engaging lead-in that introduces the topic and gets the student talking. I then teach new language by eliciting it from the student rather than simply telling them, and I check understanding throughout with concept-checking and instruction-checking questions, so nothing is left unclear. The rest of the lesson is interactive, with a variety of speaking, listening, reading and writing activities and games, such as Kahoot quizzes, so that the student is active for most of the session. At the end of the lesson, I give delayed correction and feedback. I note down mistakes while the student is speaking, then correct some of them directly and reformulate others so the student can hear the accurate version. I also praise and encourage what they did well, so they leave the lesson feeling motivated as well as clear about what to improve. I completed my CELTA fully online, so I am very comfortable teaching remotely. I am confident with Zoom, including breakout rooms, and I design my own materials: colourful slides in Canva and clear handouts in Google Docs. During my CELTA I planned and taught eight practice lessons, creating authentic materials for each one.
