My approach starts with understanding exactly where a student is, not where the curriculum assumes they should be — the same principle that shaped my experience tutoring students following the British Cambridge curriculum, where I learned to adapt one concept to very different starting points. Lessons are built around small, clear steps: I introduce a concept, work through a guided example together, then let the student try a similar problem while I watch closely enough to catch confusion before it turns into frustration. I ask a lot of "why" and "how did you get there" questions, not just "is this right," because that's what actually reveals whether a concept has landed.
Sessions stay calm and encouraging rather than exam-pressured — for younger students the goal is confidence and real understanding, not just correct answers, since that's what carries them through harder material later. I also keep parents briefly updated on progress after each session, so support at home stays consistent. I also draw on experience from informal group tutoring during my own studies, where the most effective sessions were the ones where students came in with very specific, focused questions rather than a vague request for "help" — I try to build that same focus into one-on-one lessons by first asking exactly what's confusing before diving in.
I'm currently completing my MSc at TU Munich with a strong mathematics and engineering background, but for younger students, the real skill I bring is patience and meeting a child exactly where they are.
