My name is Cornelia, though I prefer to be called and addressed as Nelia, which is the name I am commonly known by. However, Cornelia appears on all my official credentials.
I am a graduate of English Language and have teaching experience at both junior and senior secondary school levels. During my teaching practice at the university, I taught English Language to junior and senior secondary students. I also taught English Language during my one-year compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in Nasarawa State.
My English lessons are carefully structured to create an engaging, supportive, and interactive learning environment for young learners. Each session begins with a brief review of previously taught topics to strengthen understanding, improve retention, and build learners’ confidence.
I then introduce new concepts through age-appropriate activities focused on reading, vocabulary development, grammar, pronunciation, speaking, and creative writing. Where a textbook or curriculum is provided, I follow the required structure while adapting lessons to meet the needs of individual pupils.
I use interactive teaching methods such as storytelling, guided conversations, visual aids, exercises, and fun learning activities to keep children actively engaged and prevent boredom during lessons. I also adapt my teaching style to suit each child’s learning pace and ability, ensuring lessons remain effective and enjoyable.
At the end of each session, I provide short assessments, practice tasks, and feedback to monitor progress and support continuous improvement in English communication skills.
I am currently a broadcast journalist, and this experience serves as an added advantage in my teaching practice. Over the years, I have produced, presented, and packaged diverse radio programmes covering health, entertainment, and general issues. I also currently publish news reports on my organisation’s website.
I am patient, friendly, and passionate about helping children build confidence in speaking and writing English. My goal is not only academic improvement but also helping learners become confident and effective communicators in everyday life.
